Kandla Grey is the UK's most popular Indian sandstone — a cool, silver-grey stone with subtle blue undertones that suits contemporary and traditional gardens alike. Hand-cut from hard-wearing Rajasthan sandstone, it pairs perfectly with anthracite bi-folds, modern furniture, and grey rendered walls. Available in riven and sawn finishes, all sizes, from £20/m² with free UK delivery.
Kandla Grey works in almost any garden because grey is a neutral that complements every planting scheme and building material. Unlike warmer sandstones, it doesn't clash with modern grey-toned architecture — which is why it's the default choice for contemporary patios and new-build gardens. The natural tonal variation (from pale silver to deeper blue-grey, with occasional warm flecks) gives depth without being busy.
Riven Kandla Grey has a naturally split, textured surface with hand-dressed edges. It offers excellent grip when wet and a traditional, characterful look. The most affordable and the easiest to lay. Browse riven sandstone.
Sawn & honed Kandla Grey is precision-cut with diamond saws and honed to a smooth, even surface with clean edges and tight joints. It gives a sleek, contemporary finish ideal for modern patios and outdoor dining areas. Browse smooth sandstone.
Kandla Grey is stocked in the widest range of sizes of any colour: 900x600 and 600x600 single sizes, 1200x600 large format for minimal joints, and mixed patio packs that lay in a classic random pattern. The large-format 900x600 and 1200x600 sizes have become the most requested for contemporary patios, as fewer joints create a cleaner finish. Read our guide to choosing the right size.
Contemporary patios with modern furniture and bi-fold doors; new-build gardens with grey rendered walls; pathways and courtyards where a neutral surface is wanted; and indoor-outdoor transitions where the cool grey tone flows from inside tiling to the garden. It also pairs beautifully with a matching Kandla Grey sett border or anthracite edging for a defined, designed finish.
Indian sandstone is hand-cut from some of the hardest-wearing sandstone available, giving Kandla Grey the durability to handle UK weather for decades. It's frost-resistant, slip-resistant in riven finish, and low-maintenance — an annual wash and occasional sealing keeps it looking its best. As a direct importer, we supply Kandla Grey without the merchant markup, with free delivery across mainland UK from our Nottingham yard.

Kandla Grey is a cool silver-grey with subtle blue undertones and natural tonal variation, ranging from pale silver to deeper blue-grey with occasional warm flecks. The colour is consistent enough to look cohesive but varied enough to retain natural character.
Riven Kandla Grey has excellent natural grip even when wet, making it safe for patios, paths and steps. The sawn and honed finish is smoother — still safe for general use, but riven is preferable for sloped areas or steps.
Kandla Grey doesn't fade like dyed materials. Over time it develops a softer, weathered patina, and the grey tone deepens slightly. Sealing helps preserve the original colour if you prefer the fresh look.
Riven is naturally split with a textured surface and traditional look — more affordable and easier to lay. Sawn and honed is diamond-cut smooth with clean edges for a contemporary finish. Both are the same durable Kandla Grey sandstone; the difference is the surface finish.
