About Our Kandla Grey Porcelain Range
Kandla Grey porcelain paving slabs are the UK's most popular grey porcelain — and the most popular porcelain colour we sell by a clear margin. Designed to replicate the look of natural Kandla Grey Indian sandstone without any of the maintenance, Kandla Grey porcelain delivers soft grey tones with subtle buff and earthy accents, a matt stone-effect surface, and the kind of natural variation between slabs that stops a porcelain patio from looking flat or clinical. Our Kandla Grey porcelain range starts from £19/m² with free UK-wide delivery from our Nottingham yard.
Every Kandla Grey porcelain slab is 20mm thick with an R11 anti-slip rating, frost-proof, stain-resistant, and requires zero sealing — ever. Available in 900x600, 600x600, 1200x600, and mixed patio packs, this is the colour that works for virtually every UK garden, with every planting scheme, and against every house exterior.
Choosing Kandla Grey Porcelain by Size
The colour is settled — now the decision is which size. Each format changes the look of the finished patio significantly, so this matters more than most buyers expect.
Kandla Grey Porcelain 900x600 — The most popular size in the UK. The 900x600 format is the sweet spot between coverage, weight, and visual impact. It creates a clean, contemporary look with fewer joints than 600x600, while being manageable for two-person installation. At £19.09/m², it's also the most cost-effective Kandla Grey format. This is our default recommendation for most patios.
Kandla Grey Porcelain 600x600 — The classic square format. 600x600 creates a more traditional grid pattern with more visible joints. It suits smaller gardens, courtyards, and areas where 900x600 would feel oversized. At £19.99/m², it's marginally more per square metre than 900x600 because of the additional cutting and handling involved in manufacturing smaller slabs.
Kandla Grey Porcelain 1200x600 — The XL large-format option. 1200x600 creates the most dramatic, minimal look with the fewest joints per square metre. The result is a seamless, premium finish that reads as high-end from the moment it's laid. At £22.25/m², it costs more and the slabs are heavier (requiring careful two-person handling), but the visual payoff on larger patios is significant.
Kandla Grey Porcelain Mix Pack — Mixed sizes (900x600, 600x600, 600x290, 290x290) laid in a traditional random pattern. At £22.79/m², the mix pack is the most expensive format per square metre, but it creates the closest visual match to a natural sandstone patio pack layout — ideal for buyers who want the porcelain performance but prefer a traditional aesthetic over a uniform grid.
Kandla Grey Porcelain — Size Comparison
| Size | Price | Slabs per 25m² | Best for | Visual effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 900x600 | £19.09/m² | ~46 slabs | Most patios (default) | Clean, modern, balanced |
| 600x600 | £19.99/m² | ~69 slabs | Small gardens, courtyards | Classic square grid |
| 1200x600 | £22.25/m² | ~35 slabs | Large patios, premium | Minimal joints, dramatic |
| Mix Pack | £22.79/m² | Mixed | Traditional random layouts | Natural variation pattern |
Decision guide: Start with 900x600 unless you have a specific reason not to. It's the best value, the easiest to lay, and the most universally flattering size. Go to 1200x600 only if your patio is 20m²+ and you want a premium minimalist finish. Choose the mix pack if you want porcelain performance with a traditional sandstone patio layout.
Textured vs Smooth Kandla Grey Porcelain — Which Finish?
We stock Kandla Grey porcelain in two surface finishes, and the choice affects both the look and the feel underfoot.
Textured (Stone-Effect) — The standard Kandla Grey finish. The surface replicates the natural riven texture of sandstone, with subtle surface variation and excellent grip. This is what most buyers choose — it looks and feels the most like natural stone while delivering full porcelain performance.
Smooth (Honed-Effect) — Kandla Grey Smooth has a flat, matt surface with no texture. It looks more like honed natural stone or polished concrete — cleaner, more refined, more contemporary. The smooth surface is easier to clean (dirt sits on top rather than in grooves) and still carries a proper anti-slip rating.
| Feature | Textured (Stone-Effect) | Smooth (Honed-Effect) |
|---|---|---|
| Surface feel | Riven, tactile, natural grip | Flat, matt, refined |
| Look | Natural sandstone replica | Honed stone / polished concrete |
| Cleaning | Standard (grooves trap some dirt) | Easier (flat surface) |
| Best for | Traditional-modern patios | Ultra-contemporary, minimalist |
| Slip resistance | R11 | R11 |
Decision guide: Choose textured if you want the closest match to natural Kandla Grey sandstone. Choose smooth if you want a sleeker, more refined finish that prioritises clean lines over natural texture.
Kandla Grey Porcelain vs Kandla Grey Sandstone — Which Should You Choose?
This is the question we get asked more than any other. Both products share the same colour name and both create beautiful grey patios — but they perform and age very differently.
| Feature | Kandla Grey Porcelain | Kandla Grey Sandstone |
|---|---|---|
| Appearance | Consistent grey with subtle variation | Natural variation, every slab unique |
| Surface | Printed stone-effect | Genuine quarried stone |
| Sealing | Never | Recommended |
| Maintenance | Wash and forget | Annual clean + re-seal every 3–5 years |
| Staining | Highly resistant | Can stain without sealant |
| Colour over time | Stays as-laid | Develops natural patina |
| Lifespan | 30+ years | 20+ years |
| Starting price | From £19/m² | From £20/m² |
| Best for | Low-maintenance, modern patios | Character, warmth, traditional gardens |
The honest version: Kandla Grey porcelain looks like sandstone on day one and stays that way for 30 years. Kandla Grey sandstone looks like sandstone on day one and then evolves — weathering, developing patina, changing subtly with the seasons. If you want predictability and zero effort, choose porcelain. If you want a patio that ages and develops character like a living thing, choose sandstone. Both are excellent products at nearly identical price points.

Kandla Grey Porcelain FAQs
How much does Kandla Grey porcelain cost? Kandla Grey porcelain paving slabs start from £19/m² for the 900x600 format (our most popular size). The 600x600 format is £19.99/m², the 1200x600 XL format is £22.25/m², and the mixed patio pack is £22.79/m². All prices include VAT and free UK mainland delivery.
What size Kandla Grey porcelain should I choose? 900x600 is the most popular and our default recommendation — it's the best value, easiest to handle, and creates a clean modern finish. Choose 1200x600 for large patios where you want a premium minimal look. Choose 600x600 for small gardens or courtyards. Choose the mix pack if you prefer a traditional random-pattern layout.
Is Kandla Grey porcelain the same colour as Kandla Grey sandstone? They're designed to match, but they're not identical. Kandla Grey porcelain replicates the colour palette of natural Kandla Grey sandstone — soft greys with subtle buff and earthy tones. However, natural sandstone has more variation between slabs, while porcelain is more consistent. Side by side, most people can tell the difference, but laid separately in a garden the overall colour impression is very similar.
Can I mix Kandla Grey porcelain and sandstone on the same patio? We don't recommend it. Although the colour is similar, the surface texture, thickness, and edge profiles are different enough that mixing them on the same surface looks mismatched. A better approach is to use porcelain for the main patio and sandstone cobbles or setts as border edging — the different formats justify the material change visually.
Does Kandla Grey porcelain fade in sunlight? No. Porcelain is colour-stable and UV-resistant. Unlike natural sandstone, which develops a weathered patina over time, Kandla Grey porcelain retains its original colour indefinitely. The colour you see when it's first laid is the colour it will be in 10, 20, or 30 years.
Is Kandla Grey porcelain slippery when wet? No. Both the textured and smooth Kandla Grey finishes carry an R11 anti-slip rating, which is the UK standard for external use in wet conditions. The textured finish offers marginally more grip than smooth, but both are safe for patios, paths, and pool surrounds.
Can Kandla Grey porcelain be used on a driveway? Yes, when installed on a full mortar bed over a properly compacted Type 1 sub-base with slurry primer applied to the back of each slab. Standard spot-bedding is not sufficient for driveways. We recommend using an experienced installer for porcelain driveway projects.
What's the difference between Kandla Grey porcelain and other grey porcelain? Kandla Grey has warm undertones — the grey is softened by subtle buff, cream, and earthy accents that mimic natural sandstone. Other grey porcelains (like Anthracite Black or County Light Grey) are cooler and more uniform. Kandla Grey is the best choice if you want grey with warmth rather than grey that reads as industrial or clinical.
Do you deliver Kandla Grey porcelain across the UK? Yes. Free UK mainland delivery on all Kandla Grey porcelain orders, dispatched from our Nottingham yard within 2–5 working days. Kerbside pallet delivery via tail-lift lorry. Trade customers can also collect from the yard.
